Cleveland Heights’ humid climate and clay-rich soil make egress windows essential for basement safety and functionality. Here’s why:
Safety & Code Compliance: Required for basement bedrooms under Cleveland Heights building codes, providing emergency exits and reducing fire risks.
Heavy Rainfall & Snowmelt: 38 inches of annual rain and 50 inches of snow increase flooding risks, affecting 1 in 5 Cleveland Heights basements yearly.
High Humidity & Soil Retention: Levels exceeding 75% in summer, combined with clay soil, lead to moisture issues; egress windows improve ventilation.
Older Homes Vulnerable: Many pre-1950 homes in areas like Coventry Village lack modern exits, making egress windows critical for safety and value.
Local Flood Stats: Cleveland Heights’ proximity to Lake Erie (10 miles) drives frequent storms; egress windows with proper drainage help mitigate damage.
At Pro Crawlspace Repair, we offer full egress window solutions compliant with Cleveland Heights building codes, including installation and repair. Our services are customized for Cleveland Heights’ weather and soil, ensuring long-term safety.
We install high-quality egress windows designed to meet safety standards and enhance your basement. Our process includes:
Assessment: Evaluating your basement’s layout, water entry points, and soil type to select the optimal system (e.g., casement or sliding with well and ladder).
Excavation: Creating a window well, often with drainage to handle heavy rainfall.
Setup: Installing the window with waterproof seals, well cover, and our durable materials for longevity.
Testing: Confirming the system meets Ohio code requirements for opening size and sill height.
Upgrades: Adding energy-efficient glass for better insulation in Cleveland Heights’ cold winters.
For non-emergency issues, we provide thorough repairs to maintain your window’s performance. Common fixes include:
Diagnosis: Inspecting for leaks, cracks, or stuck mechanisms prevalent in Cleveland Heights’ humid basements.
Part Replacement: Repairing frames, seals, or ladders with high-quality parts.
Cleaning: Removing sediment from wells to restore drainage.
Testing: Full system check to ensure safety during heavy rains.
Recommendations: Suggesting upgrades for improved functionality.

Watch for these signs that your egress window needs attention, especially in Cleveland Heights’ older homes:
Water in Basement: During rains, signaling poor drainage from Cleveland Heights’ 38″ annual precipitation.
Stuck or Hard-to-Open Windows: Indicates failures from sediment or humidity.
Musty Odors or Mold: Moisture from poor ventilation, common in pre-1950 homes.
High Humidity: Sticky air or condensation, prevalent in summer due to Lake Erie proximity.
Rising Utility Bills: From inefficient windows straining in cold winters.

I can’t begin to explain the high level of service I received last night. To give the back story, we sold our house and needed some work done after the inspection. We needed some water pumped out and a new pump in our crawl space. Matt took my call at 5:30 PM at night and took the time to listen to the entirety of my issue. He made it clear he understood that timing was important as the issue could hold up/kill our deal. He told us he’d be there by 7:30 and he showed up on time and immediately got to work pumping. After pumping the water he went down and determined the pump was dead and we needed a replacement. By 10:00 pm the pump was replaced, I was hooked up to the wifi and could see all the statuses and had a full understanding of how it worked. He was kind enough to check around to see if we had other issues and let us know if we needed anything else done. He even took pictures and a video to share with our buyers to give some piece of mind and could potentially save the deal. I can say for certain I’ve never felt more relieved. I called 6 other places. 5 of which didn’t answer and I got sent to voicemail and 1 other who said I’d receive a call to schedule and never did. It was an incredible experience and would highly recommend and already have recommended him to family for some work they need done. If I ever need anything in the future he will be the first call.
